Anger: What’s the upside?

Anger drives. It’s a motivator. An activator. It moves us to action, so anger = action, upheaval in intensity of emotions (fear often a foundation, ego, pride, how dare you, that[thing, person, choice] is mine!)… So there is a basic, positive element of anger, which is the motivation toward action. It activates some kind of movement within us, whether it stirs us to grab a gun or whether it simply causes a tornado within our soul. The degree to which we carry the anger is what determines where it lies on your individual and also society’s scale of justice or right and wrong. If you carry that gun and shoot some warning signs to scare some thieves off your property to retain what you feel you’ve worked hard for, maybe that stays on the side of “good” but if you take that gun and go shoot your wife because she burned your chicken dinner without even asking questions, that may fall more on the “bad” side. I don’t know. I don’t know where you put what or if you even know what a scale is. That’s another lesson. Email me if you need that and I’ll work you up a price. So, anger COULD be considered a good fruit… if you don’t take it too far and turn it around and look at it from another side. Maybe it looked bad because it had some rotton spots, but when you turn it around, you see at least half of it is just fine, healthy, and perfectly sweet and ripe. You can just cut the bad part off and eat the good part. No waste. Enjoy what you can!! It’s right there for you! Get rid of what doesn’t serve you, what makes you sick, poisons you, and may very well cause a painful, early demise! Woe! To thee! No. Throw that out. Let it go back to the ground. Enjoy the good stuff!!! Smell it. Listen to what’s around you. Close your eyes. Taste the fruit. Listen. Open your eyes. See, smell, taste, hear where you are. Feel that fruit in your hands and in your mouth and as you swallow and take the breath after. Enjoy this moment. Enjoy the present. Be the present. Anger is a gift. Don’t toss it in the trash, but don’t hold on to it just because someone, maybe even someone you love more than anything in the world, gave it to you. It’s ok to throw those bad parts away and only use the good ones however you can.
